The term sidekick probably evokes memories of characters like Batman's Robin or Sherlock's Watson supporting characters that just could not live up to the awesome abilities of the heroes they follow around. In gaming, it can be a little different though. Sidekicks in video games can often overshadow the main hero and make them look weaker as a result. Oftentimes, it's not really the hero's fault, it's just that the sidekick has a better ability, characteristic or perhaps they simply get better dialogue. These superior sidekicks just have something that sets them apart from the playable hero. The following thirteen heroes in particular end up looking worse for the company they keep sorry guys, but you just need to up your game when you're around your sidekicks.
13. Banjo (Banjo-Kazooie)
Kazooie might seem like a lazy bird (she lives in a backpack, for starters) but she's also a vastly useful character in Banjo-Kazooie. Banjo does the majority of the legwork, but Kazooie learns a variety of abilities which are vital for completing the game. Take the Talon Trot for example, where the roles are reversed and Kazooie lifts Banjo onto her back to carry him up steep cliffs. It's also a much faster method of traversing the world, so speedy players will utilise this move as much as possible. Kazooie also learns flight later on in the game to completely outclass anything in Banjo's arsenal. Her outspoken personality also leads to several funny clashes with trainer Bottles; she basically acts as the forceful counterpart to Banjo's politeness. Banjo may be Kazooie's main form of transportation but I think we all know who's really carrying the weight in this relationship.
