Taking place in a world where an outbreak of the Cordyceps fungus has ravaged humanity and turned them into mushroom-headed zombies, smuggler Joel is tasked with taking young girl Ellie across the country - filling in as an adoptive daughter of sorts for the one he lost twenty years prior.

Building up to one of the most lasting and important gut-punches of an ending in gaming, The Last of Us is famed for its incredible story work and grisly fight sequences. Whilst it's not horror in the traditional sense, it is absolutely a game designed with classic horror at its core, realised in its narrative beats and interference with the zombie subgenre.
