The majority of 2016's biggest games are due to hit stores over the next few months, as in the pre-Christmas frenzy, publishers attempt to tear as much money from your wallet as possible.

As stacked as the remainder of the year is, it's always fun to look forward to what's to come a little later down the line, as 2017's gaming slate is already promising to be similarly jam-packed with something for everyone.

Inevitably, of course, some games will disappoint while others exceed expectations, and outside of a few staunchly reliable developers like Naughty Dog, it's often a roll of the dice if a game ends up fulfilling its potential or not.

And what about the prospect of next year's games providing some entertaining, nostalgia-driven fan service, or evolving one major franchise in a significant way? As you'll see the potential is there, alongside so much more.

Here are 13 predictions for 2017's biggest video games...

13. Resident Evil 7 Has A Claire Redfield Cameo

The Prediction: Franchise veteran Claire Redfield will make a cameo appearance of some kind in Resident Evil 7.

Why It Will Happen: There have been rumours for some time that RE7 will have some sort of link to the prior titles in the series, and while it's been confirmed that Leon won't be appearing in the game, what about his Resident Evil 2 pal, Claire?

Considering that she hasn't shown up in a mainline RE game in quite some time, she's more than overdue an appearance.

Why It Might Not: It's entirely possible that the link to previous games might be by way of Easter eggs and minor plot references rather than actually having a character return to the fray.

After all, it would be incredibly easy for a cameo from Claire or anyone else to come across as overly fan-servicey and detract from the atmosphere.
