The critically divisive release of Mass Effect: Andromeda is proof perfect of how players can buy into a game's hype, only to end up tremendously disappointed by a frustratingly flawed end-product.

Even though 2017's Q1 period has been abnormally strong, as consumers it's always best to be somewhat skeptical of game developers and publishers, because as much as you might appreciate a game's artistry, making money hand-over-fist is always the end-goal.

There are a ton of games to be excited about this year, but if any of them are giving you a bit of an off vibe, there's probably a reason for that.

These 13 games could all be awesome, but there's a lot of reasonable suspicion to the contrary, because we all know what it feels like to get burned by the AAA gaming PR juggernaut.
