It goes without saying that 2017 has been outstanding, nay landmark year for video games. Opening with the one-two-tiger punch knockout that was Resident Evil 7, Gravity Rush 2 and Yakuza 0, it set a precedent for how the following months were going to go.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nioh, Persona 5, NieR: Automata, Injustice 2 - it really has been relentless, with each and every title being a master of their respective genres.

However, with so much spotlight-stealing going on, there had to be a few duds lurking in the shadows. Games that for one reason or another, were either undercooked, released at the wrong time, didn't do a single thing right or just felt plain off-putting.

Indeed, it can be extremely hard to put any video game together whatsoever, but as 2017 is remembered as the year the industry finally pulled its finger out, let's take stock of everything that didn't so much land and make waves, as face-plant the surface instead...
