Nowadays you can throw a stone and find any number of "PC vs console" arguments online, but when Cannon Fodder released on the Amiga and other home consoles, nobody cared.

It had its differences between versions, like the instrumental version of the intro (compared to the Amiga's vocal version), which is equally brilliant.

But the gameplay itself was such an original idea at the time. Taking your small squadron of small soldiers through skirmishes across varying terrains and trying not to get picked off was both hilarious and challenging. Machine guns, grenades, rockets and all kinds of vehicles were a great addition to the wacky wartime antics.

An in-game promotional system that ranked your men up after each mission was a great incentive to keep them alive, as was the monument hill of perma-death at each mission start screen.

It was a great little slice of what Amiga players were up treated to, courtesy of Sensible Software's genius.
