7. Bloodborne

You can't have a 'difficult games' list and not factor in multiple Hidetaka Miyazaki masterworks.

As such, I'm including Bloodborne not because it's harder overall than Dark Souls 3, but because the opening slog is one of the most unbelievably brutal and absolutely unforgiving in all of gaming.

Challenging you to explore a sporadically-populated township, battle hordes of devastating, weapon-wielding enemies and then fight a boss before you can even save, it's clear this was designed to separate anyone even approaching a casual mindset from the rest of us.

The epitome of stupidly hard gameplay paying off when you finally surmount the odds, Bloodborne is a shining example of what to give someone if they're ever looking for a challenge.
