Square Enix was bold in hosting their own conference, and it is safe to say that their first standalone appearance at E3 was met with... less than favourable critique. It was a bit of a shambles with a lot of their games having been poached for other conferences leaving the company to string together what they could.

However, the medium through which Square Enix presented themselves speaks favourably for the future.

The choice of a pre-recorded video conference might seem a little paltry (with Nintendo and Bethesda have been slammed for it previously), but allowing smaller companies to organise their own smaller scale showcases and use E3 as a platform could be a very good thing.
