From Fortune to the End and back again.

The Uncharted series is no stranger to generation-defining moments, and with the latest (and final) release of Uncharted 4, developers at Naughty Dog have crafted a series that has set the bar for any major new release going forward.

Because even from its humble beginnings in 2007's Drake's Fortune, the series has always been dedicated to creating a memorable cinematic gaming experience. Throughout four main games and tens of hours of epic action set-pieces and heartbreaking revelations, Naughty Dog's defining Playstation franchise has accomplished things that no other gaming series has even come close to matching.

So now that the dust has settled (and the tears have dried) in the month following the release of the final chapter in the Uncharted series, it's finally time to rank the greatest moments the franchise has ever seen. Narrowing the list down to fifteen wasn't easy, but it's a testament to the quality of the games that an entire other list could have been crafted out of the moments that were left out of this countdown.

Of course, there's going to be spoilers for the entire series, so if you're one of the few people who's somehow managed to overlook these games over the years, then you should probably think about rectifying that mistake before moving forward.

15. Infiltrating The U-Boat (Drake's Fortune)

One of the first WTF moments in the entire franchise, finding the U-Boat in the early game of Drake's Fortune was the first indication that this PS3 release was going to be more imaginative than anything else on the console at the time.

It helped that the entire section was the first "big" thing you ever did in the series too, of course. Scaling and infiltrating the vessel before finding some invaluable clues that would help you on the way in discovering the legend of El Dorado provided a brilliantly-paced piece of narrative building, before an explosive finale.

Because coming out of the boat you're ambushed by an armed group, and Sully is even seemingly murdered in front of you, bringing around a suitably jaw-dropping end to the game's first act.

Sully's death is just a ruse, of course, but this first twist proved that the original Uncharted was setting itself up to become something more than your regular old gaming experience.
