14. Effect & Cause - Titanfall 2
A supremely slick level that's just one of many standout sequences in Titanfall 2's immaculate campaign. Seriously, if you're looking for the best FPS of the year, check out Respawn's immaculate blaster. It's ace.
Back to Effect & Cause, and as the level is based around warping between two different time periods at the push of a button - confusing enemies and letting you zip around faster than ever - the team actually modelled both environments 'on top' of each other, before letting you jump between them.
As such, the whole thing plays like a dream, a real sci-fi power fantasy as you hear enemies freaking out at what must be a 'ghostly' figure darting to and fro in front of them. Soon you learn how to dominate both sets of foes simultaneously, which is an achievement in pure game design that no other title has come close to.
