15 Football Manager Wonderkids Who Didn't Live Up To Expectations

By Chris Cameron /

14. Sherman Cárdenas

Anyone who played the 2007 version of Football Manager will recognise this name. Appearing on the game as a 16-year-old wonderkid able to play both centrally or on the right of midfield, you could prise him away from his reluctant club for less than £1 million, which for a potential world beater was a total steal. Most players will have bought Sherman at some point throughout that year and presumably, most will have been extremely happy with their purchase. Perhaps the darker side of the story is the way his career has panned out since his appearance as such a standout wonderkid in the 2007 edition. Recently it was even mooted that his 'unrealistically' good ability in-game negatively affected his progression in reality, due to the increased pressure and expectancy placed upon his young shoulders. He has gone on to forge a healthy career in his home country of Colombia, but undoubtedly he has never managed to live up to the expectations he was perhaps burdened with on FM 2007.
