Going dark after a few years of over-saturating the Playstation library, a new-and-improved version of God of War hitting shelves in a few months has made some radical changes to the iconic hack-and-slash franchise.

As much of a reboot as it is a straight sequel, the upcoming release is offering a more grounded and mature take on myths and legends while still retaining the visceral brawling the series is known for. Dismembering enemies and taking on gigantic monsters has never looked so good, but it's clear the developers are attempting to bring the quality of the story up to the level of the always-excellent combat.

Shedding the focus on boobs and blood and instead opting to tell a tale of fatherhood set against the grand backdrop of Norse mythology, it's clear the upcoming game is going to be the most "serious" entry in the franchise yet, and as long as it doesn't lose too much of the charm found in the previous games, should go a long way to revive Sony's seemingly outdated franchise.
