2. Castlevania

The Originals: Legendary action platformer Castlevania kicked off in 1986 to massive critical acclaim, leading to the creation of a video game universe which incredibly churned out almost 40 games before 2010. The Resurrection: 2010's Lords of Shadow was a radical retooling for the series, with a greater emphasis on explorable 3D environments along with the major plus that is having Metal Gear Solid's Hideo Kojima serving as one of the game's producers. This led to a 2014 sequel, which wasn't nearly as well-received, criticised for its bland visuals and tedious combat. Why It Needs To Stay Dead: This is over-saturation defined. Sure, the hardcore fans don't care, but when there's this much lore to deal with, it's offputting to new players, especially as far as the Lords of Shadow games are concerned. A third game is pretty likely, but outside of the most ardent enthusiasts, is there really much interest or need for it?
