8. Five Nights At Freddie's Series

The Five Nights games seem to split people right down the middle. On one side, you have the people who don€™t get it €“ it just isn€™t scary to them, and it€™s all just a quaint novelty that went on a bit too long. Then you have people like me, who were so terrified of the moving animatronics that they had nightmares. For those uninitiated in this particular phenomenon €“ you€™re a night guard at a restaurant where the robots come alive, and they will come after you to try to kill you. That€™s not the bad part. The bad part is that you can€™t move, and you can only watch on the cameras as they slowly, slowly get closer and closer€ and then BAM! Jumpscare. This game is a nightmare €“ literally. Because you have to constantly be alert and constantly checking up on where everything is at any given moment, there€™s no €œoff switch" where you can relax slightly, knowing that you€™re not in any imminent danger. With Five Nights, it€™s all adrenaline all the time, and any given second could be the one where Freddie finally pops out from his hidey hole to give you a friendly death hug. It might not be for the horror purists, since there isn€™t much substance past the jumpscares €“ but these games are definitely terrifying.
