If Okami is the PS3's equivalent to Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, then 3D Dot Game Heroes is its Link to the Past. It's a loving tribute, uniquely designed adventure that harks back to its ancestors of the 8 and 16-bit eras, with a - slightly repetitive - old-school soundtrack, dungeons, alongside a pleasant mix of puzzle-solving and combat. True to its inspirations, Game Heroes won't hold your hand and point you in the right direction if you get lost in its gorgeous pixel-block world. In that sense, it's not just a tribute to games like Zelda, but faithfully recreates that sense of working things out for yourself, and relying on your own game-playing instincts to progress. 3D Dot rarely takes you down dead ends, and even if you are on the wrong side of the map, you're likely to stumble into a dungeon or cave where you'll find puzzles and untold treasures. Combat is satisfying - particularly as enemies shatter into a thousand little pixel blocks - and you can even create your own hero (yes, Link has been created by other players and is available to download).
