Whilst its mechanics are drastically different, the basic premise of sleuthing your way through a number of environments, avoiding alarms and serving up icy death to every goon you come across is intact. The kicker, is that Ronin is turn-based, freezing time and letting you plan a route through said goons, one stab, kitana-throw, strangulation and knockout punch at a time.

Developed by one chap, Tomasz Wacławek, you can tell Ronin didn't have the biggest budget, but like SUPERHOT's time-based shakeup of the FPS genre, here you're afforded a great mix of stealth, chess-like move planning and uber-cool shadow-strikes.

Don't run a mile at its basic graphics, and you'll discover one of the most uniquely-playing games on consoles. Just don't call it Gunpoint. That's a whole other thing...
