What It's About: A 2D, 8-bit, side-scrolling platformer which recalls the outrageously difficult adventure games of the NES era. If you ever wanted to beat enemies up with nothing more than a shovel, then this is the game for you. Why You Need To Play It: Because so few games have recalled this type of game so accurately, from the retro art style to the punishing level of challenge throughout. Yes, the game is slightly more forgiving due to the player having infinite lives, but you will absolutely die a lot, yet the feeling of frustration is limited because, for the most part, it feels fair and refuses to kill you in cheap, lazy ways. Enemy variety is superb and the boss battles are extremely memorable, while the game looks and sounds great, even if it's quite an effort getting to the finish line. It may be a tad more permissive than the very games it's an homage to, but don't expect an easy ride either.
