The character of Nathan Drake drew inspiration from, of all people, Johnny Knoxville. Naughty Dog were attracted to the “coolness and goodness” of Knoxville’s daredevil personality, and thought it would fit perfectly with the everyman archetype they conceptualised Drake as being.

However, Knoxville wasn’t the only persona Naughty Dog drew from. They also took inspiration from Bruce Willis and Harrison Ford - the latter being best known for playing Indiana Jones, the films of which the Uncharted series is practically modelled after.

Additional influence came from various other pulp adventure serials, as well as romantic action-adventure heroes of the ‘30s and ‘40s like Cary Grant.
