Perhaps no game has gotten as many people taking this past year as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, a smash hit Battle Royale game which entered Early Access on Steam back in March, whereupon it continually broke Steam's record concurrent player count.

The game came out of early access in December and also released for Xbox One the same month, by which point the game had sold 24 million copies on PC alone and boasted an estimated total of 30 million players across platforms.

It's a mind-blowing level of success for a game that, 12 months ago, most people hadn't even heard of, and it'll be interesting to see whether the game can sustain this level of momentum throughout 2018.
