Last year's Game Awards saw one of the most unexpected game reveals of recent times, where a gorgeously brutal cinematic trailer confirmed that a new entry in the RPG series Divinity was in the works from franchise developer Larian Studios, who spent the better part of the last decade making Baldur's Gate 3.

Considering the universal acclaim for Baldur's Gate 3, excitement immediately reached a fever pitch over the potential for Larian's next RPG project.

But it also goes without saying that cooking up something that's apparently even bigger and more ambitious than their previous game will take a whole lot of time.

Even with the game planned to launch in early access just as Baldur's Gate 3 did, there's no reason to think we'll be playing Divinity before 2028 at the absolute earliest, and a year or two past that would be very much par for the course.
