One of the best-looking games on the N64, Yoshi's Story tends to get a pretty unfair rap in retrospective articles such as this, and as a result, it's also one of the platform's most underrated titles. While the game might have paled slightly when compared to its SNES predecessor - Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - at the time, we'd never seen textures such as cardboard and fabric rendered so faithfully, and it was pretty mind-blowing. But what about the gameplay? Yoshi's Story is a platformer that faces players with the objective of collecting 30 pieces of fruit per stage, and that's the only way to finish each level: the maps are closed loops with no end-point. Yoshi's Story received a fair share of criticism at the time of its release for being too easy and too short, and while it's certainly not a difficult game, it's still a lot of fun whether you're a kid or a fully-grown adult. Furthermore, trying to top your high score is fiendishly addictive, and though it won't keep you for too long, it's a cute, enormously entertaining little game that deserves to be re-evaluated by gamers everywhere.
