Oh, Shovel Knight, you're too pure for this world.

First arriving in 2014 and becoming a bonafide new-age gaming icon phenomenon, Shovel Knight has gone everywhere from becoming an official Nintendo Amiibo to guesting in Yooka-Laylee. In response to this burgeoning popularity, developers Yacht Club reinvested all earnings back into the game, releasing free story expansions focusing on additional characters, alongside a co-op mode, gender-swap and even Super Smash Bros.-style Battle Mode.

Nab this on Switch and you get three year's worth of content: Shovel Knight's stellar, gallant mission to save his partner (one that has some unexpectedly impactful emotional beats) alongside Plague Knight's alternate timeline take and Specter Knight's entirely new, heartbreaking inversion of a character that would've otherwise stayed one-dimensional.

What Yacht Club have done proves the Kickstarter model can lead to something wonderful, and Shovel Knight is already an icon to an entire new generation of gamers.
