From naff GTA rip-off to outstandingly hilarious concoction of characterful charm and over-the-top weaponry, Saints Row The Third is by far and away the finest in the series. Seeing a dev team who've built to this moment after Saints 2 was already a pretty barmy concoction of GTA-lite ideas, SR3 burst out the gates in a perfectly self-aware manner.

It knew how ridiculous the genre had become, how fun open-world games can be when they indulge in their craziest elements, and how to deliver epic set-piece after epic set-piece, all playing brilliantly well.
