12. Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Nintendo

You wouldn't think Fire Emblem had many tricks left up its sleeve when it comes to turn-based combat and managing a crew of spectral weapon-wielding warriors, but Three Houses did something nobody saw coming:

It brought in a ton of Harry Potter influences.

Hopping through the established timeline to spin a yarn of students learning to cooperate and learn together - before a time jump changes everything and forces you to keep going - Three Houses has a ton of hooks to keep you checking in each day.

Besides holding lectures and treating students to stat-boosting meals or conversations around their studies in general, all of this translates into the battles themselves. You'll not want to lose your favourites, and you'll actively cheer on those who are struggling elsewhere.

A phenomenal way to enhance what is already some stellar turn-based combat, Three Houses took a massive risk and it paid off tenfold.
