10. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare

This year's Call of Duty was brilliant.

After a generation of stumbling and trying to find their footing across sci-fi extravaganzas and returns to World War II to score points with fans, Activision seemed to say "Right! We're going back to what works".

As such, Modern Warfare's reboot was born, a single-player campaign returned, and the revamped multiplayer is now played by millions.

Sure, the occasional shotgun is overpowered, but these are the best maps, movement, progression systems and gameplay feel in COD history. The campaign too is a solid gut-punch of foreign intervention warfare and blurring the lines of "the right thing to do".

It's arguably a negative that Activision had to undo so much of the last few years to get back to what people want, but they did it with proficiency and care.
