While many of the previous generation were sobbing for days over Aerith's passing in Final Fantasy VII, The Last of Us was a more mature approach to storytelling, centring on Joel and Ellie's tale of strained father/daughterhood and survival.

Those themes take the pair on a journey we all know like the back of our hand, straying through morally grey territory and ultimately ending on a question with an answer that divides rooms.

The Last of Us was another MASSIVE step up for Naughty Dog as a studio; a combination of story and gameplay that compliments each side in equal measure.
