20 Biggest Video Game Bombs Of 2025
14. Game Of Thrones: Kingsroad
Even the biggest fans of the Song of Ice and Fire saga struggle to defend the ending of the TV adaptation. For that reason, skepticism surrounding any Game of Thrones project isn't just understandable but warranted.
Having said that, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad showed a lot of promise. Netmarble's open-world RPG captured the spirit of George R.R. Martin's work, with its visceral combat, deep world-building, and character-driven conflicts. If Kingsroad succeeded as well as everybody hoped, it could give closure to fans who felt betrayed by the HBO series' last season.
Sadly, Kingsroad was another major letdown. The co-op functionality is limited, the objectives are plain, and the basic mechanics naturally being suited to a mobile game.
However, the worst aspect of Kingsroad by far has to be the aggressive monetisation. The most fundamental elements of the game are locked behind a paywall, including fast-travel, inventory slots, and decent horses, making every task a tiresome chore unless you're a Master of Coin.
Though Kingsroad attracted a lot of players at first, it saw a 94% decline from peak by November. Rather than redeeming Game of Thrones, Kingsroad accomplished a historic feat and managed to sour its reputation further.
