At the height of its popularity, The Walking Dead was one of the most sought-after TV shows around. On paper, its zombie-infested premise seemed perfect for a video game, but despite multiple attempts, one worthy of its source material never seemed to surface. This looked like it may change, however, when the trailer for prequel title The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct dropped.

With Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker shown to be reprising their roles as the Dixon Brothers, Daryl and Merle, the trailer showed them fighting across Atlanta during the early days of the zombie outbreak. For fans of the show, getting to step into the shoes of one of its most popular characters seemed like an exciting prospect. Could this be the game that finally successfully translated the series to video game format? In a word, no.

The game launched in March 2013 to scathing criticism aimed mainly at the tedious combat, awful enemy AI and short, dull campaign. Ultimately, despite its promise, Survival Instinct joined the list of poor Walking Dead adaptations.
