20 Craziest Moments In Gaming In 2025

20. Oblivion Returns Unannounced

It's difficult to think of a remaster in recent memory that blindsided gamers the same way as Oblivion. There've been rumblings galore of Elder Scrolls IV getting a touch-up for years, but it seemed like wishful thinking since it never amounted to anything.

That's why it was shocking when Bethesda announced the rumours were legit via livestream on April 22nd 2025.

But rather than teasing Oblivion Remastered for months or years, it was made available immediately after. It's standard for tentpole brands to milk any new instalment for as long as possible, so it was uncharacteristic to see the coveted Elder Scrolls entry fall into our laps with little to no warning.

Weirdest of all, the project itself couldn't have turned out better. Rather than churning out a texture update, the new iteration of Oblivion delivered a complete overhaul, including 4K visuals, new lighting, updated animations, battle mechanics, and modernised user interface.

Because of this, calling the game a remaster feels misleading, since it's closer to a full-on remake. So much work and time was put into this version of Oblivion, it's a wonder how Bethesda kept it secret.
