20 Gaming Facts That Will RUIN Your Favourite Franchise
10. Wrong Romance - Batman: Arkham Knight
Released in 2015 to critical acclaim, Batman: Arkham Knight served as the epic conclusion to Rocksteady's superhero trilogy. Although the overuse of the Batmobile was divisive amongst players and Batman fans could see the major reveal coming from a mile away, Arkham Knight nevertheless proved to be the series' darkest entry.
One of the most harrowing moments comes early in the game when players witness Barbara Gordon taking her own life after she's kidnapped by the titular villain. The tragedy of her death is compounded when Tim Drake later learns what happened to his girlfriend. While this is an emotionally devastating scene, their romance was criticised as a strange choice by some players.
Despite the significance of this plot point, Tim and Barbara's relationship exists only in this game. In the comics, Barbara has had a long romantic history with Dick Grayson, the original Robin, that dates back to 1975.
Although a potential reason for this creative choice was to further explore Batman's guilt about what happened to Jason Todd, the decision to suddenly introduce this change as a major plot device came across as forced, especially when Grayson is a prominent character in the game.
