20 Hilarious Video Game Mechanics You Didn't Know Existed
15. Really, Commander? - Mass Effect 2
It’s easy to forget that the Mass Effect franchise, for all of its alien civilizations and futuristic tech, still takes place in our corner of the galaxy, with Earth and the rest of the solar system available for exploration.
Alongside some Earth-style sense of humor.
In Mass Effect 2, the player can send probes to the many planets across the galaxy to learn basic information about them. This doesn’t just include the made-up sci-fi planets but also the celestial bodies in the solar system, like Uranus.
And if your mind has never left middle school, you might already be able to tell where this is going.
When you usually send a probe to a planet, EDI responds by saying, "Launching probe.” However, when you probe Uranus, EDI’s voice line will change to an annoyed “Really, Commander?” followed by an even more exasperated “Probing Uranus…”
The fact that only Uranus enjoys having a unique voice line for probing is a clear sign that not only did the developers know what they were doing, but they also deliberately spent the time to program their (and most players’) immature sense of humor into the game.
