4. Streets Of Rage 2

While SEGA proved that they could develop a serviceable Final Fight clone with the original Streets of Rage, handing much of the development duties to Ancient for the sequel resulted in a title that could truly stand alongside Capcom's classic as one of the best games of the entire genre.

Streets of Rage 2 offered better graphics, multi-stage levels and superior gameplay, with the addition of character-specific special moves definitely helping things along.

It also offered one of the best multiplayer experiences on the console, as there is nothing quite like teaming up with a friend to clean up the streets.

While the first game may have been played by more people - not least because of its inclusion on the Mega Games 2 compilation - it is the second that was the true high-point of the series.
