The Image: Grand Theft Auto...in 3D? Back in 2001, there wasn't a prospect more exciting than this, and more to the point, it's got a bada**-looking dude carrying a gigantic rocket launcher. What's not to like? Why It's Powerful: Any gamer worth their salt has probably invested countless hours into the earlier, top-down 2D Grand Theft Auto games, and seeing the series revitalised for the PS2 in glorious 3D was a complete dream come true. This promotional image and others like it represent a turning point for both the franchise and the sandbox game as a whole: GTA III was now the King, and every other similar title had to live up to its excellence (or at least try to, and usually fail). This image is a testament to Rockstar's audacity and ambition: they began with the horrible graphics and simplistic gameplay of the original GTA, and managed to meticulously transform it into one of gaming's all-time landmark achievements. Sure, the mute Claude is far from a great GTA protagonist, but his role in video game history is undeniable.
