9. Titanium Court

Those deeply embroiled in every Steam Next Fest may have been familiar with Titanium Court before its full release earlier this spring, but for most players this strategic roguelite went from unknown to critical darling with rapid speed.

Titanium Court is one of those games where it’s best to go in knowing as little as possible. On the surface, it presents itself as a simple match 3 game, but there is much more at play. You’re tasked with protecting the titular court, which is where the game incorporates some tower defense mechanics alongside its matching.

These systems are engaging enough on their own, but it's the way Titanium Court plays out its meta narrative through gameplay that it shines brightest. It’s unapologetically strange and at times borderline confusing, but always consistently enrapturing.

The game was met with a multitude of high scores from critics, who praised its blend of mechanics, self awareness, and how it defies genre conventions. On top of all that, Titanium Court is also outrageously funny, making it an exceedingly worthwhile experience.
