20 Stunning Open World Game Areas That Left You SPEECHLESS

4. Blackreach (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)

Stumbling upon your first Dwemer Ruin in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a pretty exciting moment. These labyrinthian dungeons offer you a phenomenal glimpse into a long-lost civilisation and the impressive contraptions they created. That said, once you've explored one, or two, or twenty, they do get a bit repetitive.

Thankfully, there's one that truly switches the formula up, and it completely steals the show within Tamriel.

Blackreach is a ruined Dwemer city that takes your breath away when you first discover it. The cavernous depths are lit by huge, bioluminescent mushrooms that make you feel like you've been transported to some entirely alien world. Alongside the gorgeous lighting is a bright golden orb that casts rays of artificial sunshine into these depths.

While the land of Skyrim is dense and magical, it's rare to really feel like you've landed in an otherworldly fantasy, as most of the game is full of crypts, natural landmarks, and human-built structures. Given all that, this bombastic underground biome is a breath of fresh air.

Blackreach does have a reputation for being hard to navigate, but it's an undeniably beautiful place to get lost in.
