Stardust that is; every time you catch anything, you'll get a nice chunk of Stardust to spend upgrading/powering up your other Pokémon.

However, although the game insists on populating your world with the same handful of creatures for around five levels at a time, you'll still end up snatching them up, simply because, well, what are you not going to get some extra Stardust?
