19 Things Video Game Fans Are SICK Of

11. Rule-Breaking Enemies

In this writer's mind, Silent Hill: Townfall is by far the worst of the three titles that have constituted the series' recent resurgence. Whereas Silent Hills 2 and f are up there with the best games in the series, Townfall is left propping up the totem pole thanks to tedious stealth sections, a predictable plot and The Weight.

Or, as this writer came to know him, "That Cheating Bastard".

The Weight acts as Townfall's nemesis, similar to Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2 or The Bride from Silent Hill f. Except while those adversaries were instantly iconic antagonists, The Weight is just a deeply annoying, poorly designed video game baddie. Unlike Townfall's other enemies, The Weight can't be scanned through the walls so have to rely on your line of sight to see him. Which is a tad annoying when he appears in the near darkness, has seemingly random patrol patterns and - unlike every other enemy in the game - hangs around the doorway of the room you're in.

All that and he can kill you in a single hit, too.

The Weight isn't the only enemy to break a game's established ruleset - Doom: Eternal's Marauders infamously slammed the brakes on that game's free-flowing combat encounters - but he is the most recent shatterer of a golden rule of game design: don't make the player feel like they're being cheated.
