15 Video Game Mysteries Answered Years Later
11. Halo 3: Who Was Lauren?
Released in 2007, Halo 3 is widely regarded as a high point for Bungie's first person shooter series. The third outing for the legendary Master Chief is praised for its killer soundtrack, action-packed campaign, and groundbreaking multiplayer mechanics. Years after its release, during Bungie's 2012 Mail Sack Q&A, one of their employees revealed he had hidden an easter egg in the game that had yet to be found, that only appeared on a certain day. This understandably sent the community off on a mission to try and find it.
Despite their efforts, though, nobody found it- until 2014, around 7 years since the game originally launched. A YouTuber known as Lord Zedd finally discovered that if you press and hold down both thumbsticks on the campaign loading screen, the camera zooms out to reveal the Halo ring with text on its surface stating ''Happy Birthday, Lauren!''- which was a tribute added by Bungie programmer Adrian Perez for his wife. The kicker was that this only appeared on December 25th, the day of her birthday, which went a long way to explaining why it hadn't been found for so long!
