9. Donkey Kong 64: Was There Another Rainbow Coin?

Has there ever been a game with more collectable items than Donkey Kong 64? 

Short answer: no. 

The game holds the Guinness World Record for the most collectable items in a platform video game, with a whopping 3821 items officially counted. Part of these collectables are Rainbow Coins, special coins that grant all 5 playable Kongs 5 Banana Coins each (so 25 in total). For years, fans believed there to be 15 of these Rainbow Coins in total.

However, in a game so dense with collectables and secrets, there will always be speculation about things potentially undiscovered. Many fans wondered if there may in fact be more Rainbow Coins tucked away somewhere in Donkey Kong 64's world waiting to be found. 17 years after the game was released, speed runner Isotarge discovered a previously unknown 16th Rainbow Coin. This coin was hidden in tall grass, completely undetectable by players unless they knew specifically where to look. Isotarge discovered it while examining the game's save data and using analysis tools to track down the missing collectible.

No official word on this 16th coin ever materialized from developer Rare, so it is unknown if this was accidentally placed somewhere with barely any visual clues, or if it was a deliberately sneaky hidden easter egg.
