20 Video Game Reveals That Shocked the World
9. Diablo Immortal
Not all shocking announcements are necessarily good, as was certainly the case with the whole Diablo Immortal debacle.
In the months leading up to BlizzCon 2018, Blizzard teased fans that a major announcement was coming, and this naturally led many to expect the unveiling of Diablo IV.
But as it turned out, Blizzard's big reveal was a Diablo-themed mobile game, Diablo Immortal.
And because that wasn't deflating enough, principal designer Wyatt Cheng went on to reveal that the game would be mobile-exclusive with no plans for a PC release.
This was met with a chorus of boos from the live crowd, prompting Cheng to dig his own grave with the infamous retort, "Do you guys not have phones?"
To say that fans were pissed is quite the understatement, and though Diablo Immortal was ultimately a massive commercial success in spite of fanbase ire and boycott attempts, it remains a textbook example of how out-of-touch the world's biggest publishers can be.
