20 Video Game Side Quests That BROKE You

3. The Art Of Seeing (Ghost Of Tsushima)

Ghost of Tsushima is a marvel of a game, as it manages to deliver all the samurai power fantasy you could ask for, while not skimping on the story. It spins a meaningful, nuanced yarn about betrayal, legacy, and honour, with that level of prestige also making it to the side content. There's perhaps no finer example of this than in Yuriko's two-part side tale.

Yuriko is a kindly older woman and beloved member of Clan Sakai, who acted as Jin, the protagonist's, caretaker after his mother died. The first half of her side story revolves around creating poison darts, all while she regales you with stories of her life. There are a few hints that Yuriko might be unwell, but nothing that her age can't explain.

It's the second mission, "The Art of Seeing," however, that kicks things up a notch, as her health struggles become much clearer. The quest ends with Jin and Yuriko sitting peacefully overlooking a beautiful view, as she quietly, yet suddenly, passes away.

There's a gorgeous history between these characters, making this farewell feel truly meaningful. In a game so full of violence, it's wondrous to see someone go so serenely.
