20 Video Game Villains You Couldn’t Wait To Kill
4. Albert Wesker - Resident Evil 5 (2009)
Resident Evil has never been short of a bad guy or two, with everyone from the standard issue zombie, all the way up to the higher eschelons of the Umbrella Corporation, looking to do us harm. Somehow, though, when we think of the real antagonist of the series – the one figure we would all pull a gun on – we think Albert Wesker.
The mystery man with the shades, the leather and the Spike-from-Buffy ‘do has been stalking our screens from the shadows since his debut in 1996’s Resident Evil as a turncoat mole working for Umbrella. Originally a man of science, and one of the test subjects in Project W, Wesker was granted superpowers by a prototype virus Umbrella was working on. In the aftermath of the devastation wrought on Raccoon City and beyond, he turned cold as ice, ready to make any sacrifice, put anyone to the sword, for his own ends.
This is what makes him such a great villain, but also what gives us itchy trigger fingers when he shows up. The betrayals, the plots to erase humankind, the total surrender of his own humanity – Wesker ticks all the boxes. But it took 13 years, and so many games in between, before Capcom would finally let us end him in Resident Evil 5 – with double rocket launchers, no less!
Your time’s up, you son of a b*tch.
