20 Video Game Villains You Never Realised Got The Last Laugh

18. Ahriman - Prince of Persia (2008)

The 2008 reboot of Prince of Persia is a mixed bag in terms of gameplay, but its story, on the other hand, is definitely one of the most intriguing and original in the entire franchise.

The main villain of the game is the dark god Ahriman, who seeks to destroy the entire world by shrouding it in darkness. You spend the entire game stopping his evil plan by travelling the deserts with Princess Elika, who possesses the power to heal the places corrupted by Ahriman’s magic.

As you play the game, it feels like everything is heading towards your typical good ending, with you and Elika on the brink of sealing the dark god away for good.

However, then the game takes a surprising turn.

In the final scene, you learn that to seal Ahriman away, Elika needs to sacrifice herself. The Prince refuses to let his companion die, and so, in a huge twist of fate, Ahriman persuades the hero to release him and let Elika live, allowing the god to take over the world and shroud it in darkness.

Yes, even though it looked like you were winning against Ahriman at every turn, the god still managed to get his way in the long run.
