20 Video Games That Mock You For Failing The Tutorial
5. Joke Credits - Outer Wilds
Outer Wilds is a fun indie game about exploring a tiny universe and figuring out its secrets. While the game doesn’t feature a proper tutorial per se, its first “day” is meant to teach you the core mechanics, such as the time loop that happens every time the supernova destroys the world.
You can also accidentally destroy the universe on the first loop yourself, in which case you will unlock a secret joke ending.
In the high-energy lab on Ember Twin, you can find a black hole core and a white hole core. The cores are there to show you a phenomenon where two copies of an entity briefly appear before the entity steps through a dark hole—a thing you normally discover by shooting your probe at the small black hole and seeing its copy come out the white hole.
However, if you remove one of the cores before the probe enters the black hole, you will create a paradox, making two objects appear where there should be only one.
This error will suddenly cause cracks to appear on your screen until a message appears telling you that you destroyed the fabric of spacetime. Afterward, the game will play a mock credits roll with a kazoo rendition of the main theme, essentially mocking your ridiculous failed experiment.
