20 Video Games That Secretly Reward You For Failure

6. Peace Ending - Fallout 4

Fallout 4 features four major factions that the player can support. The factions eventually all go to war with each other, and depending on who you choose to support, that one group will reign victorious, while most of the other factions will be eliminated.

Or at least, that’s what happens on a regular playthrough, because if you mess things up at a very specific moment in the game, you can actually reach a secret ending where the factions coexist.

When you first enter the Institute’s underground headquarters in the main mission, the game expects you to join them as either a legitimate member or a spy for your preferred faction. The main questline will have you do missions for the Commonwealth's boogeymen until they trigger an all-out war between the remaining groups in the region.

However, if you break the scientists’ rules or kill their member beforehand, the Institute will immediately banish you. The game will fail the main quest and then jump straight to the last mission on the side of the Minuteman, skipping past the Bunker Hill mission that begins the conflict between the Railroad and the Brotherhood.

This will trigger an ending where both groups are at peace, and you will be able to keep benefitting from both their aid at once.
