Original Predator star Shane Black has been tasked with reinvigorating the flagging franchise with the big-budget blockbuster treatment, which Fox hopes will transform the series into a mammoth tentpole.
Black, who helmed Iron Man 3 to a billion-dollar box office, is certainly an interesting choice, and it goes without saying that his penchant for dark comedy should make this a Predator film like no other.
He's assembled quite the impressive cast for the sci-fi actioner, namely Thomas Jane, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, Boyd Holbrook, Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, Alfie Allen and even Gary Busey's son Jake, who will play the son of Busey's character from Predator 2.
If The Predator can walk the line between tying into the previous movies and also effectively soft-rebooting the franchise, this could be one of the year's most crowd-pleasing blockbusters.
