5 HD Gaming Collections That Should Be Released

5. Final Fantasy VII-IX

Given Square€™s reluctance to work on a Final Fantasy VII remake, despite exhaustive fan demands, this final entry is a pipe dream, but given the timeless appeal of the series, even upscaled versions of these three PS1 classics with the addition of trophies/achievements would go down a storm. Final Fantasy VII was a phenomenon that received universal acclaim for its narrative, audio and graphics. The game was the first in the series to be released in Europe, the first to feature full-motion video cut-scenes and the first to be presented in 3D, as well as the first that many gamers across the world experienced. Final Fantasies VIII and IX followed to similar fanfare a few years after, each being unique in their own way but having engaging storylines and content in common. There has been less internet clamour for remakes of these, but they still sell extremely well for games that are more than twelve years old, and have gone down in history with renown equal to that of their predecessor. Final Fantasy X, the first game in the franchise released for the PS2, will be getting a HD remake on the Playstation Vita at some point (though news has been scarce in recent months), but sadly, it would seem that the three crowning jewels that preceded it will not receive similar treatment, though we can dream. Perhaps more realistic would be a collection of SNES releases (Final Fantasies IV-VI), which were rereleased individually on the Game Boy Advance before a high definition overhaul of IV was released for the Nintendo DS. These, however, would have limited appeal to gamers who weren€™t around in the early 90s to appreciate them, despite the high regard in which they are held by many, myself included.
