5 Underrated PS1 Games That Had Amazing Openings

By Daniel McMurtry /

1. Psychic Force

This is easily one of the most underrated beat 'em ups on the PS1: it had a host of fighters who all had various psychic abilities, such as being able to control fire, wind, light and gravity. You fight in a 3D cube and can throw light attacks when in close range or lob psychic attacks while at a distance, and combining the directional buttons with a shape you could unleash devastating moves for a quick kill at the cost of your "psychic gauge." The opening video has been one of the most memorable throughout my gaming career: it showcases all of the psychics and their various powers beautifully. And quite wonderfully its all done in an anime style with an epic song that refuses to leave your head. During the opening it gives you a fair sense of the allegiance of the characters and it'll make you want to pick your favorite to play with based on this opening video alone. Seriously, even now it's a must-play game.Missed any classic, underrated games? Drop a comment below!
