It wasn't that long ago that being a geek was considered a negative thing. Having extreme interest in subjects like gaming, sci-fi, fantasy, and technology was an easy way to get made fun of by the "cool" kids at school. Watch any 80s teen movie and see two archetypes always present: the geek and the jock. Of course in those movies the geeks always win, but that's because geeks were the ones going to the movies, while jocks were out partying (I know, that's a sweeping generalization. I'm sure that somewhere there were athletic teenagers attending the movies in the 80s). Geekdom has experienced a renaissance as of late, however, and suddenly being a geek has become quite fashionable. Popular internet figures like astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, shows like The Big Bang Theory, and the emergence of comic book films from both DC and Marvel have turned everybody into a wannabe geek. I myself have recently taken to reading comic books, a former geek-exclusive activity that I had never considered before. Still, I don't consider myself a geek. If I am, I'm still a novice. Geek culture is incredibly interesting, and plunging into it will expose you to whole new hobbies that you can obsess over. No need to worry about being made fun of, because everyone else is going it! This leads me to Geek & Sundry, a fairly new YouTube channel that creates videos related to all things nerdy. Here are some reasons you should subscribe to this varied channel today.
