8 First-Person Video Games That Changed Gaming Forever

8. Call Of Duty

It doesn't seem right to talk about revolutionary first person shooters and not mention Call of Duty. With sixteen main entries, Call of Duty has become one of the best selling games of all time, despite only being a product of the last 15 years.

That being said, let's talk about why the first installment of the franchise was so innovative and differed from first person shooters before it.

The AI that was available at the time was able to adapt to different scenarios in a match and react pretty reasonably to any sort of variation in play. This allowed the AI to actually assist the player and became an entirely new phenomenon for the FPS genre. No longer were you the sole entity fighting against the opposing forces, now you had an entire team to back you up. That's what made Call of Duty so trailblazing.

The idea of team based campaigns was introduced and we can see how it has completely influenced the genre today. There are countless games that use this mechanic and saying that it was successful is quite an understatement considering the entire franchise has grossed over $15 billion.
